Finishing Your Book

(Asynchronous Class, starting July 8th, 2024)

This asynchronous group class (starting Monday, July 8, 2024), is for anyone struggling with a book. Although that first sprint of fifty pages into a book—either novel or nonfiction—can be exhilarating, it’s hard to sustain. Sooner or later, you’re likely to find yourself in a creative ditch, wheels spinning. We’ll take a look at when to revise and when not to, as well as which questions are productive and which are not.

We’ll seek out ways to reinvigorate ourselves for much more writing. The final class will be a tutorial on the business of finding an agent and/or publisher for your book.

FAQs About “Finishing Your Book”

What does “Asynchronous” Mean?

While this is a group class, meaning that you’ll have classmates, and you’ll be reading and responding to each other’s work, this class has NO MEETINGS. The entire class is run through the platform Wet.Ink (a company that created a platform specifically for asynchronous creative writing classes). Because there are no meetings, you can do the coursework at your leisure.

There are deadlines, and there’s homework, but there is no need to be present in the class at a specific time.

How Long Is The Class?

It lasts 8 weeks. Each week a new lesson will drop on Monday, starting on July 8th, and ending on August 26h.

How much time does the class take per week?

It varies, but this class is less demanding, in terms of time, than my other main asynchronous class (Personal Essay Masterclass). This class takes about 1-2 hours per week, although sometimes it might be more.

Will I Have a Complete Book By the End of the Eight Weeks?

It’s unlikely, but you might! This class is more designed to help you stress-test your book idea, and make sure there are no glaring structural or stylistic problems with the text or concept. The class also provides a framework for creating your own realistic and ambitious time line for completing that book. The speed that you work will depend on your book and everything else in your life.
